From the Rubble Arises

The boathouse was collapsing under its own weight.  The east wall was undermined; corner failing.  You couldn't close the barn door.  Age, uncontrolled water and a shifting foundation that probably resulted from Mr. Lufkin's blasting out a nitch for boat below the boathouse, had taken its toll.  To make repairs, the first floor beams and flooring were replaced.  But before we could move up and install a bathroom, the wall needed to be repaired.  This involved installing a concrete bridgebeam measuring 5' x 4' x 25' and subsurface drains.  Once complete, the crumbling stonewall was rebuilt.  A huge undertaking.  Our stonemasons, led by Jay Leyland, did an excellent job over a two week repair.  Everything is now plumb.

Karen made sure the old barndoor and stone keystone were saved and reinstalled.  Some photos.
